Narmin Virani, RDN, LDN, CDCES

Narmin is an advocate for ethical, evidence-based, trauma-informed, and stigma-free healthcare and partners with clients in medical nutrition therapy to achieve their health goals.

Narmin Virani is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) who has been in clinical practice since 2003. She worked for 10 years in the cardiac wellness-rehab field at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind-Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital where she learned the research and clinical applications of mindfulness meditation. This work led her to start the life-changing practice of meditating herself, and she began integrating it with nutrition counseling to promote a healthy relationship with food. She completed her MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) professional training at The Center for Mindfulness at University of Massachusetts in 2018.

While working at the UMass Memorial Bariatric Center, she continued teaching experiential mindful eating to help her patients heal the anxiety, fear, and guilt around eating that had developed from years of chronic dieting. She moved away from the traditional weight-centric approach to Intuitive Eating after seeing clinical and scientific evidence that chronic dieting led to weight cycling and eating disorders in the long term. She witnessed her patients thrive with this approach, and this motivated her to conduct a research study on Intuitive Eating that was published in Bariatric Times.

Narmin is particularly passionate about partnering with clients managing eating disorders, chronic dieting, diabetes, or PCOS. She feels strongly about working in the weight-inclusive space and expanding her knowledge of eating disorders by currently working part-time at Veritas Eating Disorders Hospital while also being a part of the NNP team. She currently serves as a member on the Board of Directors for the Center for Mindful Eating, a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate professionals and the public about mindful eating. Her other interests include cooking, gardening, reading, and spending time with her husband and son.
